Thermal protectors work by using a bimetallic strip or a temperature-sensitive disc that expands or contracts as the temperature changes. When the temperature reaches a critical point, the bimetallic strip or disc will snap open and break the electrical circuit, cutting off power to the equipment. Once the temperature drops back to a safe level, the thermal protector will reset automatically and allow the equipment to resume normal operation.
